Now that we’re back from the first full day (I’ll post that separately) and actually awake, here’s the details on our adventure on getting here. First off, at one point I pulled out my laptop and even without internet typed up a paragraph while waiting for one of our planes:
After a few hiccups I’m sending this to you from Tokyo, Japan! Details forthcoming when I’m not really tired.
Everything is setup and good to go. I’m all packed up, we figured out how we’re going to meet up with each other at Chicago, everything is as planned as it can be.
As a little side note, I’m going to change the posting timezone so it’s set to Japan time. So posts are going to actually happen 14 hours ahead of EST. Also changing the category to ‘in japan’ so it’s a little more clear. Also I decided to change the date of the countdown to the expected time of arrival in Japan, as I guess that’s when it should officially start.
I’m only going to mention the flight from Chicago to Japan since the other flights are just little ‘hops’ to Chicago. It’s going to be American Airlines flight 153. Flight Aware’s tracking looks decent (and I can direct link to the flight) but the image may not work since it’s an international flight, but will still show where we’re at. You can also try tracking it on FlyteComm. Or any site should show it with the flight identifier AAL153. Flight leaves at 12:40pm local time, or 1:40pm EST.
Just a quick update. All tickets have been booked, hotel reservations made, all that’s really left are minor logistics type stuff. Such things as how much luggage we want to carry around, how many clothes to bring, etc. Also I updated the site a bit. I went and grabbed some photos from Japan off flickr and quickly made a randomizer script for it. After the vacation I’ll put up our own pictures there instead.
I’m going to be taking a vacation to Japan from May 19 - June 2 and figured it may be somewhat entertaining to setup a blog for it. I’m going to be going with my cousin, who is also a writer on here. The months leading up to it will be boring for the most part except maybe occasional status updates. Then once we get there I’m going to try and post something every day possible. So if you want, just make a mental note to come back here around may 19. Or just subscribe to the feed if you don’t mind occasional updates and such.
